La scoperta del massacro fu annunciata il 13 aprile 1943 da Radio Berlino, che ne attribuì la responsabilità ai sovietici, e anche se al processo di Norimberga si attribuì la colpa ai tedeschi, proprio a 50 anni dalla strage iniziata il 3 aprile 1940, l’Urss riconobbe l’NKVD come responsabile del massacro e della sua copertura.
